Escassi: “We have a thread of hope and we have to hold on”

The Blue and White captain, who scored the team's first goal, appeared in the press room after #MálagaMirandés. “We are facing the games as if they were the last due to the necessity we have,” he said.

Alberto Escassi is one of the standout voices in the dressing room. The Malaguista analysed the atmosphere experienced tonight at La Rosaleda: “We understand all the situations, the anger and protests from the fans, but we had to focus on the game. We have to hold on to the thread of hope and win the two games we have left,” he highlighted.

His goal was key to tip the match in the home side’s favour: “I’m happy for the goal, it was the 1-0 to get the three points. We’ve been on the sidelines and focused on the very important game we had. The game was a final and that’s the mentality we maintained,” he added.

Despite the tightness of the situation, the team continues to believe in its possibilities: “The season is what it is, that's very clear. In the last 10 games, the numbers have been very good. We’ve been playing finals for a while now, a summary of the season we’ve had. We are not throwing in the towel. Out of the last 10 matches we’ve had five victories, three draws and two losses. We are facing the games as if they were the last due to the necessity we have,” he commented.

Escassi is clear about his arguments of faith: “We’ve played the same as other games. If we look back, if Rubén Castro had scored the penalty, we would have had four wins on the bounce. Each game is approached in the same way, like a final. For many people it’s a little late, but as long as there is a thread of hope, we are going to hold on to it,” he explained.

“The main people responsible for the situation are the players. We are not throwing in the towel, we are training extremely well. In this final stretch, the results are going well,” analysed the team captain.

The goal celebrations have been charged with emotion: “I have applauded, thanks for the support and everything the fans have given us all season. And with Lago's goal you could see the unity within the team, they continue to believe with the slightest chance. The team believes and we are going to hold on to that,” he argued.
