Málaga and Real Sociedad faced each other at La Rosaleda on Sunday 7th January at 21:00 in the match corresponding to the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey. 22,111 fans gathered at La Rosaleda Stadium to watch the match.
The local starting line-up was comprised of: Carlos López; Víctor, Einar, Moussa and Murillo; Antoñito C, Juanpe, Sangalli, Jokin; Aaron Ochoa and Roberto.
In the initial stages, the lads exerted high pressure on the rival which led to a few approaches to Marrero's goal. Whereas Real Sociedad also had an early chance to take the lead from Oyarzabal that Carlos López saved to perfection.
The clearest chance came from the Blue and Whites, the work of Víctor Gómez, who after a good play by Ochoa, sent the ball to the post with a powerful shot from the edge of the area. The rebound fell at the feet of an attacker who hit the ball into the area which Roberto ended up finishing without finding the goal.
With lengthy possessions and a number of inconsequential approaches by both teams, the game reached the half-time mark with the scoreboard remaining at 0-0 at La Rosaleda.
In the second half, the home side started with the same lineup, while Imanol Alguacil's team made a double substitution.
The first goal of the game came in the 49th minute in favour of Real Sociedad. Mikel Merino attempted to assist Zubeldia with a header in an action in which the ball touched Einar before entering the goal. (1-0, 49').
Following the goal, Málaga made a triple substitution with Kevin, Dioni and Dani Lorenzo entering the field of play. Kevin sent out a warning when he joined the game with a strong mid-range shot that was stopped by the visiting goalkeeper.
Málaga was able to handle the ball more in the latter stages and pressure Real Sociedad with several chances to go level. Roberto managed to finish off a good cross from the side that didn't find the target. Soon after, in the 89th minute, David Larrubia tried his luck from the edge of the area with his left foot that narrowly missed the opponent's goal.
Finally, the match ended in a 0-1 win for Real Sociedad to secure them a pass to the next round.
