Carlos Puga: “We need to make the draw worthwhile at home”

The Malaguista fullback, who has a past with Córdoba, spoke in the mixed zone at the Nuevo Arcángel after the 0-0 draw. “We need to keep doing what we’re doing and collect as many points as possible,” he said.

Analysis of the draw

“I'm very happy with the match, although we weren’t able to secure the three points, which was our goal today. We were solid defensively and had a few chances that we didn’t convert into goals. But overall, I’m really pleased.”

Valuable point

“What’s important is not to lose away and to make the draw worthwhile at home next week, which is what we’ve been doing, and to keep up our current form. We’re doing very well both defensively and offensively, so we need to continue training hard throughout the week. Despite the injuries, we’re an exceptional group and we need to keep going as we are.”

Great defensive performance

“The rival plays very well, even if things aren’t going their way right now. We performed well; in the first half, we had two dangerous shots, even though they didn’t go on target. Sometimes football requires you to sit back and defend, while other times you have more chances to attack. We defended pretty well in this match, and hopefully, in the upcoming games, we can be more precise in front of goal and secure victories.”

Key to remaining unbeaten

“It's the daily work we all put in, both the teammates and the coaching staff. We’re not going to waste the opportunity to get promoted; we need to continue as we are and collect as many points as possible.”

Personal performance

“I'm a bit frustrated for not being able to finish the match. We performed quite well; Córdoba managed to get quite a few crosses in from the wings, but we defended effectively, and the centre-backs were solid. Overall, I’m very pleased with my own performance.”

Model fans

“I’ve been with both Córdoba and Málaga, and I can’t speak bad of either. They are two great fanbases. I spent three years at Córdoba, and now I’m at Málaga, where it’s crazy with 30,000 people when we play at home. I hope the friendship continues, as it has so far, and that all Andalusian teams continue this way. May some teams get promoted, and others maintain their positions.”
