Dioni: “My father helped me score the goal”

The Malaguista, who scored in the first game of the season at La Rosaleda, also featured in the 'Juan Cortés' press room. “He gave me a lot of strength and confidence for helping the team in this draw,” Dioni stated.

Emotional goal
“A very special goal. It has been a very difficult week for me and my family. My father had been unwell for a while and, unfortunately, he passed away. He helped me from above to score that goal. I’m absolutely certain of that.”

Competition in attack
“Competition is always good, it pushes you to improve. We have three forwards, and it’s important to be in the best shape possible to play. We need to pay attention to all the small details to be at 100%.”

Emotional factor
“It has been a difficult week; I wasn't sure how I would handle the match. I came to train on Wednesday afternoon and trained with the group on Thursday. There were many emotions, and often you don’t feel your best. This morning, I woke up with that strength; he would have wanted me to play. It gives me a lot of strength and confidence to help the team with this draw. Every point is positive and important, and we need to keep going.”

Confident about scoring
“Deep down, I knew I would score. People kept telling me I would, and you start to believe it. When you believe it, things happen. Yesterday, I had a good training session, which gave me confidence. I need to keep going, get in the best physical shape possible, and stay focused.”
