Izan Merino: “In my mind, I’ve always wanted to succeed here”

The young homegrown Malaguista appeared in the 'Juan Cortés' press room following his contract renewal until 2027. “The club, Loren, and the coach conveyed their confidence in me, and I didn't hesitate,” he said.

Loren’s words to Izan

“Thank you for your commitment to Málaga CF. It’s been a long and tough year, but it ended very well. You had to deal with complicated situations, but you're at Málaga, a club with a strong sense of belonging. A club focused on youth development, the best place for you. We will help you, with your commitment, to become the best player you can be at Málaga CF. It hasn't been easy to turn down the 'threats' from those big clubs. I want to thank you, your family, and your representatives. And if someday you need to leave Málaga, may you do so with all honours, having clearly demonstrated your commitment and dedication to the club.”

Fulfilling a dream

“It’s true that there was interest from other clubs, but in my mind, I’ve always wanted to succeed here. The club, Loren, and the coach conveyed their confidence in me, and I didn’t hesitate.”

The lifelong excitement of being a Malaguista

“Every year we grow and Málaga is making me a better player and a better person. The excitement of being a child can't be lost; that's the most important thing.”

A lot of hard work following this renewal

“I consider myself a mature person. The support from my people helps me daily, whether it’s coming to training and giving my all or making the most of every minute in matches with as much normality as possible.

Commitment to the present and future

“When I talk with the coach and the club, they convey their confidence and encourage me to stay here. I also want to thank Loren for his trust and make the most of this opportunity.”
