“We have an exciting league ahead of us”

The Malaguista coach held a post-match press conference following the first game of the season.

Match analysis

“At the start of the match, they came out very strong through set pieces. In the first 20 minutes, they pushed us into a low block, and had several crossing opportunities, which we know is something they're very dangerous at. However, it's true that in the last part of the first half, I think we started to be ourselves. We began to control the ball, and in our first approach, Kevin scored. I think we had a very good second half, although it's true that in those details, crosses and second plays, we were able to stay in the game and keep playing our football. The disappointment is that last set-piece play, in the second play.”

A demanding rival and setting

“This is football, and we know that Ferrol is strong here at A Malata. We know it's very difficult for opponents to get points here. I'm leaving with a very good feeling, both about the individual performances and the team's collective effort.”

Good feelings on the return to LaLiga

“We've come back with a good feeling. I'm happy because I've seen a good version of my players. I also leave with the sense that we let two points slip away, which would have been great. Considering where we came from, we're leaving with some positives. It was the first match of the season, and there are details we need to improve.”

Exciting league

“We're back, we're here. We have an exciting league ahead of us. The great thing is that we've almost kept the same team, with only two changes, brought in some young players, and competed one-on-one against a team that was last season's surprise in the division. Now, we're thinking about Saturday, when 30,000 fans will be waiting for us at La Rosaleda. We must honour them with our effort and hard work, beyond the result. We'll correct those small mistakes and keep improving.”

A young team with energy and enthusiasm

“That’s the beauty of youth, the fearlessness we have. But it also has its drawbacks in certain aspects of inexperience, like in second play situations and individual duels. We’re aware of those areas we need to improve, but for me, give me energy, give me enthusiasm. The enthusiasm of a child and the strength of an adult. We have a good mix. I’m a big supporter of young players. Very few teams play with 16- or 17-year-olds, and we’re going to be one of them.”
