Pellicer: “It’s a team victory; the players believed”

The Málaga CF coach assessed the win against Albacete Balompié (2-1). “The team showed organisation and spirit; we defend very well when we’re united,” he stated.

Great teamwork

“Congratulations to the players for the work they’ve put in. We’ve shown spirit and a sense of belonging. It’s more than just three points due to what has been generated. Thanks to the fans, who carried us when we could no longer go on, with both head and heart. We achieved a lot with a man down to stay close to victory. You have to adapt, know how to stay united, and maintain order both in attack and defence. I’m very pleased with the players and the fans. In any situation, the team will compete. We’ve made a statement, and the players have a lot of spirit, to put it mildly.”

Team victory

“Self-esteem. Belief. We’ve been dominant in previous matches. Understanding and knowing each game is crucial. Today, the team had that order, that spirit, and when we stay united, we defend very well. Additionally, individual situations contribute positively. New players are adding value, which was key last year, with a squad where everyone will have their chance. It’s about that collective feeling I emphasise. This is a team victory and one that builds fan support. Even with a man down the team has shown a lot of spirit. We already have five points, aiming for 45 more, and to keep adding to that.”

Starting line-up and goal for Antoñito

“I make decisions based on performance. It’s important to manage well. The spotlight will always be on certain players, and it’s a matter of daily habits. If you stop working for four or five days, people will forget about you. It’s about learning and providing reassurance, using common sense. If a player maintains that attitude and competitiveness, it benefits everyone. If 16-year-olds need to play, they will. But it’s crucial to stay calm and manage things properly."

A prepared and competitive squad

“In all three matches, the players who have come on have raised the level of the team. That’s very positive. It’s difficult because players are naturally selfish and always want to play, but everyone will have their opportunity. The pitch doesn’t lie.”

Castel’s debut

“He made a tremendous effort; he’s a different profile compared to Roko or Dioni. He’s been training alone, which isn’t the same as training with a group. The situation was tailored for him, and I believe he did a good job.”
